Companies House identity checks: one person, several roles
Directors and people with significant control must check their own Companies House identity-verification obligations. The rollout began on 18 November 2025, with transitional requirements for existing roles. Do not assume verification for one role completes every required submission.
Separate verification from linking each role
Companies House explains that identity can be verified directly through GOV.UK One Login or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider. Direct verification is free. Successful verification produces a personal code that is used in the required role-related filings.
Existing directors generally confirm verification with the next annual confirmation statement during the transition period. PSC requirements have their own timing rules. A person who is both a director and PSC should inspect both records and the applicable due dates instead of treating the roles as one entry.
Check the live record before relying on a reminder
As at 18 October 2026, the transition introduced in November 2025 is still relevant to existing appointments. Use the current Companies House guidance and company records to establish the particular deadline. A general article cannot determine the due date for every individual role.
Example: A founder verifies identity and gives the personal code to the person filing the confirmation statement. The founder should still check whether a separate PSC verification statement is required and when. The personal code is sensitive account-related information and should be shared only through the necessary, trusted filing process.
Make compliance ownership explicit
Assign someone to maintain the company calendar, but ensure directors and PSCs understand their personal requirements. Record completion and retain appropriate confirmation without collecting unnecessary identity documents in a general shared drive. A service provider should explain its role and any charges clearly.
Be alert to misleading payment demands or messages that imitate Companies House. Navigate through official services and verify unexpected requests independently. The identity-verification rollout is only one part of company compliance; accounts, confirmation statements and changes to company information remain separate obligations. Rules for other categories may commence on different dates, so avoid extending the director timetable to every possible filer.
Your next steps
- Check the official record and current deadline for each director and PSC role.
- Complete verification through an official route and make the required role submissions.
- Record completion securely and keep company filing responsibilities separate.
